Point Reyes National Seashore, just beyond the Lodge, is one of the finest birding sites in the country. Nearly 490 species, more than half of all birds recorded in North America, have been seen within its 70,000 acres of coastal habitat.
On the property itself, Barn Owls are year-round residents, and Tomales Bay sits directly on the Pacific Flyway. Winter brings the heaviest traffic, when loons, grebes, and other waterfowl stop to rest and feed midway through their migration.
Bird watching kits, binoculars and a field guide, are available to borrow at the front desk for the length of your stay. Download the Merlin Bird ID app before heading out to help identify what you’re seeing or hearing in real time.
